The Japanese house by k-associates in Nipponbashi

Right in the center of Osaka, in the lively district of Nipponbashi (“Den-Den Town” the equivalent of Akihabara), this residence was built on a plot of barely 32.50 m². To be exact, the building even occupies 30 m² on the ground.

To overcome the lack of space, the construction emphasizes verticality but takes full advantage of its earthy location. The facade of the building measures 2.5 meters and occupies the entire width of the site. The structure fills the 13 meters depth of the ground.

The first three floors have been designed to provide reasonable and sufficient space in height while minimizing their impact on the whole. Thus the top floor, where the dining room is located, completes the building with a ceiling placed at 6 meters in height and offers an open-air terrace. A ladder allows you to enjoy additional living space with the open garden placed on the roof.
