Prime Minister Suga said he would make every effort to prepare countermeasures against the earthquake, and urged residents of the affected area to be careful about aftershocks.

The previous day, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake took place off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, followed by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that afternoon. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake was analyzed as an aftershock of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

The maximum magnitude (intensity of shaking) from this earthquake reached the’Six River’ in Fukushima and parts of Miyagi Prefecture. It is known that it is the first time in about 10 years that the shaking of the Jindo 6 River has been detected on the northeastern coast of Japan.
