The Janissary Ibricians: Rise to Power and untold riches in Ottoman Empire

  • Some sultans were so enamored of the Janissary slaves who served them in the bath that they made them grand viziers.
  • The women were worried about their influence and ordered their murder

In the stories of beautiful Ibrician slaves who rose thanks to the love of the Sultan, there is everything – washing away dirt in the bathroom, love, strong emotions, high posts, incredible power, untold riches, and sometimes an unexpected murder for the finale.

The topic of the Janissaries Ibricchii jumped out loudly from the deep history, after the wife of the president, Desislava Radeva, got angry at the recording of the meeting of “We continue the change”, when a joint government with GERB was discussed. It is known that the leaders of the party got into politics thanks to the head of state Rumen Radev, after which they began to attack him furiously, and at the meeting in question it was announced that their first task was to remove his people from the offices.

That’s why the first lady reacted on social networks in her characteristic way: “Do you know that in the Ottoman Empire, they mainly chose janissaries as chief ibricians. It is interesting that her post was accompanied by Tarkan’s song Kuzu Kuzu (“Lamb, lamb” – author’s note).

If one digs into history, one will find that the person who took care of washing the ruler, including the groin and buttocks, often later rose to the highest positions in the Ottoman Empire. As well as that the sultans are by no means the first to have thought of the advantages of this profession. The Indian philosopher Kautilya, who wrote in 300 BC, was perhaps the first to mention her in his works. In his treatise “Arthashastra” he mentions that special officials were appointed responsible for the personal hygiene of the monarch, who strictly followed the rituals of his bathing.

The practice was also preserved in the Middle Ages, as people from this environment were entrusted with increasingly important positions. Probably because most were favorites of the ruler and were then chosen to be his personal assistants in the bath, having previously undergone serious training. Thus, in a pleasant atmosphere, they could push their theses and thoughts and reach positions that others could only dream of.

What is noted nearly 500 years later in ancient texts dedicated to the Chinese Han dynasty, in 206 – 220 AD, read – HERE!
