World Cup 1994
At the 1994 World Cup in the United States, the J.League was represented by two players defending two Latin American nations. Yokohama Marinos defender Ramón Medina Bello played for Argentina, who were eliminated in the round of 16 after being defeated 2-3 by Romania.
Meanwhile, another player is Ronaldao (Shimizu S-Pulse) who managed to become a champion with Brazil, beating Italy in the top match on penalties.
World Cup 1998
At the 1998 World Cup in France, the J.League sent a total of 30 players. Of these, 22 players played for Japan who qualified for the World Cup, despite being held up in the group stage.
In addition, there were also three South Korean players and one Cameroonian player who were eliminated in the group stage, as well as two FR Yugoslavia players who were eliminated in the round of 16 losing 1-2 to the Netherlands.
The best result was achieved by a Brazilian duo, Cesar Sampaio (Yokohama Flugels) and team captain Dunga (Jubilo Iwata) who took Samba to the final, before losing 0-3 to hosts France.
World Cup 2002
At the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, J.League submitted 25 player names, 19 of whom were playing for hosts Japan, who were eliminated by Turkey in the round of 16. One Slovenian player, Zeljko Milinovic (JEF United Ichihara), was eliminated in the group stage.
Meanwhile, five other players defended South Korea who made history by advancing to the semi-finals before being held up by Germany with a score of 0-1. The five players are Yoo Sang-chul (Kashiwa Reysol), Choi Yong-soo (JEF United Ichihara), Yoon Jong-hwan (Cerezo Osaka), Hwang Sun-hong (Kashiwa Reysol) and Ji Sung Park (Kyoto Purple Sanga).

World Cup 2006
At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, there were only 19 J.League players who appeared to be defending their country. A total of 17 Japanese and two South Korean players were both eliminated in the group stage.
