The Italian composer Ennio Morricone died at the age of 91. He has accompanied more than 500 films and series with his melodies, such as the legendary film Then in the West. According to the daily Corriere della Sera, the famous composer died on Sunday night at a Roman clinic as a result of a fall.

Morricone was one of the greatest personalities of film music of all time. Despite his advanced age, he traveled tirelessly around the world and sold out large halls. After five Oscar nominations, he did not win the American Film Academy Award until 2016, for his music for Quentin Tarantino’s film Eight Terrible. At the same time, paradoxically, he won an Oscar for his life’s work in 2007, in addition to three Grammy Awards and three Golden Globes.

Morricone also remembered Czech audiences thanks to melodies for the Octopus and Marco Polo series.

Morricone recorded the music for the film Eight Terrible in 2015 in the Hostivař studios of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra (ČNSO). Tarantino has used several of Morricone’s songs in his earlier films Infamous Pancharti and Unchained Django. The famous Italian composer returned regularly to collaborate with CNSO.

In an interview in 2010, Morricone said that he considered himself primarily a composer, then a conductor. During his fifty-year successful career, according to his words, he followed mainly the method and accuracy.

He became most famous for his collaboration with director and compatriot Sergio Leon. Notorious not only for its mournful tones of the accordion is Morricone’s music for the western Then in the West. He collaborated with Leon on a number of other films, including the trilogy For a Handful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Extra Dollars (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966).

Morricone wrote his own obituary on Sunday, which will be published in all major Italian dailies on Tuesday. “I, Ennio Morricone, have died. I announce my death to all my friends who have always been close to me and to those I have not seen for some time. It’s hard to name them all, “Morricone writes in the introduction to the obituary. “However, I would like to specifically mention Peppuccio and Robert, friends who have been close to me in the last days of my life. There is only one reason why I decided to say goodbye to you all in this way and why I decided for a private funeral: I do not want to bother, “added the deceased composer.

In the obituary, they say goodbye to their sisters and their families, their children and grandchildren. “I hope he knows how much I loved them,” he writes of them. In the end, he says goodbye to his wife Maria and mentions the “incredible love” that has always kept them together.
