Cloud-based streaming platform Brightcove said Monday that Bending Spoons will buy the company in a deal valued at about $233 million. The Italian technology company is joining a series of deals with which it wants to expand its app portfolio.
As part of the deal, each share of the Boston, Massachusetts-based company will be valued at $4.45, a nearly 40% premium to the stock’s most recent closing price.
Bending Spoons, which includes services such as note-taking program Evernote and photo-editing program Remini, has been making acquisitions throughout the year.
The Italian app developer bought file-sharing platform WeTransfer and digital publishing platform Issuu in July.
Bending Spoons is also seen as a potential IPO candidate due to its numerous acquisitions, Reuters reported last month.
Brightcove, which enables media companies and enterprises to monetize content through streaming, said the acquisition will allow it to leverage Bending Spoons’ technology and market expertise.
The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2025.
**PAA:** How will Bending Spoons’ existing portfolio of creativity and productivity tools (e.g., Remini, WeTransfer, Issuu) complement Brightcove’s streaming platform and potentially create new revenue streams?
