The Italian Coffee Company: From a Small Cafe to a Nationwide Franchise

One of the most popular franchises in the state of Puebla is The Italian Coffee Company, a coffee shop that has become a favorite for many.

According to its website, its story is a success story, as it was the first Puebla cafeteria to open its doors to the public in 1996 and it is here to stay.

At first it was thought that it would be “a coffee bar set in the European style”. But its creators never imagined that this small business would cause such a furor among the people of Puebla that eight new points of sale were opened the following year.

Later the franchise system would develop with more than 400 branches nationwide and an online boutique where it sells its blend of gourmet, espresso and decaffeinated coffee.

In 2015, the name of The Italian Coffee Company came into public attention after it was revealed that its alleged owner, Manuel Rodolfo Trillo Hernández, had ties to drug trafficker Joaquín Guzmán Loera, alias “El Chapo”. However, the company denied that this person had any relationship with the firm.

José Luis Salazar and Domingo Minutti were the founders of The Italian Coffee Company.

And apparently, according to publications about this company, the businessman Domingo Minutti is still related to The Italian Coffee Company, but the name of Eduardo Duncan Ancira also appears as the owner of the franchise.
