« We hold the Israeli regime responsible for all the violence that is taking place. » This is the beginning of a letter signed by around thirty student organizations from the prestigious Harvard University. The text speaks of the apartheid regime which is the only one to blame and it provokes a reaction in a country which, after the terrorist attacks of Hamas, provides marked support to Israel.

The university’s Jewish center denounces a sign of worsening hatred and anti-Semitism. The university management, in particular, is being blamed for its weak reaction. Harvard alumni, such as former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz, are taking shots at the leaders of their training establishment.

Passionate debates

Faced with the outcry from the political world but also from business leaders, the president of the university ended up, after two days, publishing a press release condemning “ the terrorist atrocities perpetrated by Hamas ».

Harvard is not the only university affected. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has provoked heated debates in the country’s academic circles for years. Demonstrations in support of Palestine were organized everywhere, such as at Columbia University in New York, and in several state universities across the country.
