Israel’s Energy Ministry says the date for delivering new gas supplies to Europe under the framework agreement will take several years.
The Israeli Energy Ministry confirmed yesterday that it will be several years before it can significantly increase its supplies of natural gas to Europe.
Israel and Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union last June to send more gas to the bloc as part of its efforts to diversify its energy resources away from Russia.
In response to a question about when new supplies will be delivered under the framework agreement, Israeli Energy Ministry director general Lior Shilat said, “It will take some time.”
“In the short term, there will be some increase, but large shipments will come later on,” he told Reuters on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Egypt.
Shilat added that “Israel” expects to be able to significantly increase its gas production within 3 to 4 years, and during the last decade, the Israeli occupying entity has become an energy exporter after discovering a number of gas fields offshore in occupied Palestine.
