The Israeli occupation army admitted that a thousand of its soldiers and officers had been injured with various injuries since the beginning of the war on the Gaza Strip, and the Chief of Staff also admitted the failure to confront the Palestinian resistance attack on the seventh of last October.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported from the army that 202 Israeli soldiers and officers were seriously wounded, 320 soldiers were moderately wounded, while 470 soldiers and officers were lightly wounded.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation also quoted sources in the Israeli army as saying that 5 soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip as a result of friendly fire, and that 3 others were killed as a result of an escape of bullets and an unsafe explosion.
A report prepared by the Israeli army indicated that dozens of soldiers were injured as a result of falling from military vehicles, or using military vehicles in an incorrect manner.
The Al Jazeera correspondent said that Haaretz newspaper pressured the Israeli army to acknowledge the numbers of infections after news about them leaked from hospitals.
The reporter added that the newspaper said that unlike previous wars, Israeli military censorship imposed strict restrictions to prevent the leakage of information about wounded soldiers.
Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said – yesterday, Monday – that the Israeli army was operating in an area of only 20% of the Gaza Strip during its ground operation.
For its part, the Israeli army says – on its website – that 392 soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war on October 7, without detailing the number of those killed in ground battles.
Admission of failure
On October 7, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades and other Palestinian factions launched an attack on the settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip, killing 1,200 Israelis and capturing about 239 others, according to the official Israeli Broadcasting Authority.
While Israel launched a war on the Gaza Strip, it left massive infrastructure destruction and tens of thousands of civilian casualties, most of them children and women, as well as an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to official Palestinian and UN sources.
On the other hand, Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said that the army and the Intelligence Division failed on October 7, but we should not be preoccupied with that now.
He added that the army is taking advantage of the days of the truce to prepare and make plans to continue the fighting in order to dismantle the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), as he put it, noting that the army is not only defending the border with northern Lebanon, but rather is initiating operations, according to its assessment.
