Israel-Palestine conflict: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani calls Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan ‘shameful and despicable’

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani says US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Israeli-Palestinian settlement is “shameful and disgusting” for all Muslims.

Iranian President Rouhani said in his speech on the occasion of his visit to the shrine of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, on February 2, that ‘these days we can witness a great shame, which he (the US president and the Israelis) Prime Minister) has termed the agreement of the century as historic. How shameful and disgusting it is for all Muslims and freedom seekers.’

He added that ‘there is no other way but to resist, to unite and stand in front of the attacker.’

Iranian President Rouhani and his cabinet visited Khomeini’s tomb on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. President Rouhani’s speech was broadcast live by rolling local channel IRIN English-language Press TV.

Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Palestine has cut off all ties with the US and Israel by rejecting the Middle East peace plan presented by Donald Trump.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Palestinian president made the announcement on Saturday during a one-day emergency meeting of the Arab League in Cairo, while the Arab League supported the Palestinians in opposing Trump’s plan.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told the Arab League meeting called to discuss the US president’s plan, “We have informed the other side (Israel) that any kind of cooperation, including security, with them and the United States Relationships will not be maintained.’

However, Israeli officials did not immediately comment on his statement.

It should be noted that in the Middle East peace plan presented by Donald Trump on Tuesday, it is proposed to recognize a limited Palestinian state and Israeli sovereignty over settlements in the occupied West Bank.

According to Reuters, the Palestinian president also said he had refused to discuss the plan with Trump on the phone and refused to receive a copy of the plan to study.
