The iron heel on the United States

Donald Trump‘s march in his return to the White House has been inexorably marked by one victory after another in key states. At 2 am (8 am in Italy) the announcement of the victory in Pennsylvania effectively precluded Kamala Harris from almost any other possibility of prevailing.

Shortly afterwards Donald Trump took to the stage at the Palm Beach convention center in Florida surrounded by his entire family, Vice President Vance and party leaders, overwhelmed by the chants of USA.

“God spared my life for a reason, to save America,” he said. “Now I will fight for you with my every breath,” I will not rest until I have delivered to you the prosperous America you and your children deserve. It will be the golden age of our country.”

Never averse to hyperbole, Trump has characterized the election result as an “unprecedented mandate,” but what came out of the polls tonight was a truly epochal result.

Four years after launching his followers to storm Parliament, the Americans rewarded the author of the first coup attempt in the country’s history with a plebiscite that went beyond the wildest expectations of the Trump campaign itself.

A historical chapter with unknown implications now opens, both for the United States and for the rest of the world.

Donald Trump will take office with a Republican Senate and perhaps a Republican House. If the final count gives him the popular vote as it appears, it would be the first time for a Republican president since George Bush did so in 2004.

Not to mention the super majority of the supreme court which previously granted him complete immunity – this without constitutional precedent.

In the next mandate there are really no limits or limits to his authority.

His will be a more aggressive, more organized, more decisive and efficient administration, in implementing a radical program, the one drawn up by the fundamentalist Heritage Foundation in “Project 2025” to remake America in the image and likeness of the fundamentalist and radically conservative currents that animate the Maga movement

“The promises made will be kept,” Trump added from the stage. For some, for example the 12 million illegal immigrants that he assured he would deport, it sounded more like a dark threat than a promise.

But in the 2025 program there are also many other objectives, such as the pardon for the approximately 800 convicted for the insurrection of January 6 (while the trials against him will almost certainly fall into proscription).

States would be given absolute discretion to regulate abortion (including state monitoring of pregnancies). Also envisaged is the rapid installation of loyalists in every key position in the state apparatus, the use of the Ministry of Justice for the persecution of political and personal enemies and the use of the army to quell possible protests.

To complete “the greatest rehabilitation in history”, Trump took the rhetoric of his speech to the extreme and radicalized it. While Harris chased the center, he did the opposite, finding still unknown reservoirs of anger and resentment.

In other words, it was not a campaign based so much on politics but on “guts”, which exploited the worst and most divisive instincts to unite the base around “cultural” and emotional wars.

Against the backdrop of a genocide, Trump took back the White House by elevating transgenders in K-12 schools.

Europe has held its breath in recent months at the prospect of post-fascist and national populist reversals in France and Germany.

Today, however, the United States “falls” and it would be truly naive to underestimate the consequences on a global level.

It’s not just about the possible trade war or the probable U-turn on the climate crisis. The list of guests invited last night to Mar A Lago, including Nigel Farage and Eduardo Bolsonaro (son of the former Brazilian president, ndr), was a preview of the global alliances that will mark Trump’s second presidency.

To the relief of Milei, Putin, Bin Salman and Netanyahu who from today have the desired counterpart in the Oval Office.

The same goes for the unprecedented array of plutocrats who have aligned themselves with him, collectively contributing more than a billion dollars to his campaign.

In Florida last night there was obviously Elon Musk, the main representative of the most militant faction of digital capitalism which, in Vice President Vance, now has its own man one step away from the presidency.
