The Iranian prosecutor calls for the death penalty for Johan Floderus

According to AFP, which refers to Mizan, the negotiation took place on Sunday.

Johan Floderus is accused of having spied for Israel and, among other things, of having “spread corruption in the world”, a broad but serious crime classification in the strictly religious dictatorship. Floderus was arrested while on vacation in April 2022 and has been held since then.

According to Iranian Mizan, no date has been set for when a verdict will be announced.

The prosecutor: “Demands the maximum sentence”

“Given the important nature and negative effects of the accused’s actions, I demand the maximum sentence,” Mizan reported the prosecutor as saying, according to French news site France 24.

Global corruption is one of Iran’s most serious crimes and can lead to the death penalty.

The trial for Floderus, and the death sentence against the Swedish-Iranian doctor Ahmedreza Djalali, suspected of espionage, has previously been linked to the life sentence in Sweden against Hamid Noury. Noury was convicted in the Court of Appeal for his involvement in mass executions in an Iranian prison in the late 1980s.
