Regularly, Apple “abandons” certain devices. This year, the iPhone 6 Plus will no longer be supported by the Apple brand.
Marketed in September 2014, the iPhone 6 Plus was withdrawn from sale in 2016, giving way to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The first device to support Apple Pay, the iPhone 6 Plus joins the iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5C in the list of “vintage” smartphones from the brand.
Other products also join the vintage sectionnamely the iPad 4 (released in November 2014) and the Mac Mini released in 2012. As Apple explains, “products are considered vintage when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 years ago and less than 7 years ago.”
To summarize, Apple will stop repairing the device if there is a problem. Repairs will always be possible at third-party repairers, but parts will logically become increasingly rare.
The list of vintage products (Mac, iPod, iPhone, etc.) can be found here.
