According to speculation, the iPhone 15 Pro is supposed to offer record thin bezels
If the leaks are true, it will surpass even the Samsung Galaxy S23 in this regard
The Korean flag has bezels as thin as 1.95 millimeters, the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to offer 1.5 millimeters
We’ve already quoted Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman once today, as he reported on the latest speculation regarding the Apple Watch SE, Series 9 and Ultra 2nd generation. In the same review, he reported on one quite fundamental design innovation that Apple is said to be applying to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
iPhone 15 Pro and thin bezels
“This year, Apple is getting closer to the dream mobile device with the two biggest changes to the iPhone 15. The standard iPhone 15 models will replace the notch with a dynamic island, while the displays of the Pro and Pro Max models will be made with new technology,” he wrote Gourmet.
What he means by the new technology for the Pro and Pro Max models is LIPO, a form of injection molding where plastic is injected into a mold at low pressure to create a product with a solid layer. The new production process of the design will thus allow Apple to equip the iPhone with a display with thinner frames.
This is what the 1.5 millimeter frames on the iPhone 15 Pro are supposed to look like
And they really mean a lot thinner. The iPhone 15 Pro is said to offer frames around 1.5 millimeters, although the current generation iPhone 14 Pro has frames of around 2.2 millimeters. Gurman adds that Apple already used LIPO technology in the construction of the Apple Watch Series 7, which brought about a significant reduction in bezels compared to previous generations.
Samsung might be envious
Type @UniverseIce shared a render of what such an iPhone 15 Pro with narrower bezels could look like. He also mentioned that one of the next iPads should come with similar technology. In addition, the iPhone 15 Pro is supposed to be the first smartphone to offer this – or similar – technology. Not long after, however, the Xiaomi 14 will arrive, which is speculated to have similarly thin bezels.
Samsung currently boasts the thinnest bezels in the Android world, especially with its Galaxy S22 and S23 series. The basic models of both flagship series have bezels that are barely 1.95 millimeters thin. The debaters on Twitter, however, calm their passions: the current iPhone 14 Pro was also supposed to offer a frame thickness of less than 2 millimeters, but in the end everything is a little different.
