The iPhone 15 Introduces USB-C Port, Dispel Fears of Accessory Restrictions

One of the main innovations of the iPhone 15 line of smartphones was the USB-C port, which replaced the proprietary Lightning. There were fears that Apple would try to limit the full operation of unofficial accessories, but they were not confirmed as a result.

What is known

The problem is that for previous iPhones with the Lightning connector, Apple limited the functionality of some cables and accessories that were not certified under the Made for iPhone (MFI) program. To do this, the company added a special chip to the ports that recognized third-party accessories.

Some insiders suggested that Apple could do something similar with the iPhone 15: for example, limiting the charging speed and data transfer through uncertified cables. But Ars Technica writes that these rumors were not confirmed.

Well, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max all come with a completely standard USB-C port, with no cable or accessory restrictions. All existing USB cables, chargers and accessories will work fine with the gadgets.

But there are still some differences. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are limited to USB 2.0 data speeds of up to 480 Mbps, while iPhone 15 Pro models support USB 3 data speeds of up to 10 Gbps.
