Apple is used to launching a slew of new products at the end of each year, and it looks like the iPhone 14 might have more than its fair share of gadget companions, according to a recent leak.
This one comes from Mark Gurman, in his weekly newsletter Power On (opens in new tab). Gurman mentions many devices slated for launch “between the fall of 2022 and the first half of 2023,” which is the busiest time on Apple’s calendar.
Chief among them is iPhone 14, with Gurman saying there will be four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max as we already have heard many times.
Upcoming iPhone Pro models would differ from standard next-gen iPhones by incorporating an always-on display, high-resolution rear cameras, and an improved front-facing camera.
We should also get acquainted with the AirPods Pro 2, according to Gurman. “I expect new Pro headphones with an updated chip and optimization of sound standards“, he adds.
Apple would market new iPad Pros equipped with the new M2 chips for 2022. Gurman says there will be 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions. He similarly responds to rumors of a larger, 14-inch iPad, saying it could arrive within a year or so.
It’s not all on the tablet side: a new entry-level iPad (2022) would integrate 5G, an upgraded chip and a USB-C port. So many speculations that we have already shared.
And then there’s a collection of never-before-seen smartwatches. This would not only be the top-end Apple Watch 8, but also an Apple Watch SE 2 – as well as a reinforced edition of the standard model aimed at extreme sports enthusiasts.
Finally, Gurman suggests the presentation of new Macs, MacBooks and Macs Mini with M2 chips, without forgetting a “mixed reality” helmet exploiting said chip and 16 GB of RAM. We were expecting its reveal at the WWDC 2022 conference, it was probably delayed.
What if there was only the iPhone 14?
Let’s recap the potential Apple September launches:
- Four iPhone 14s
- Three Apple Watches
- Multiple iPad Family Updates
- The AirPods Pro 2
- A mixed reality headset
- Many, many Macs
Apple usually holds a major keynote in the fall, usually around the end of September – and normally we should see several products unveiled that evening.
But given the length of this list, there’s no way they’ll all be showcased at a single event – unless you’re settling for five seconds of exposure for each one. They will therefore probably be presented during several keynotes.
It’s not a total surprise: in 2020, the company held two separate keynotes in the last quarter – one for iPads and Apple Watches, and the other for iPhones. Apple will probably have to repeat this double exercise in 2022 – or even carry out a third live one. Gurman is after all implying that some devices are expected to launch in early 2023.
