ROŽNOV POD RADHOŠTĚM In connection with the leakage of highly toxic cyanides, the police searched the former Tesla complex in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The place is located 16 kilometers from the place where the poison got into the river Bečva. This was confirmed for the iRozhlas.cz server by the head of Energoaqua, which, among other things, also deals with cyanide water treatment, Oldřich Havelka.
The police have already announced where the cyanide got into the Bečva River. However, many companies are connected to the channel |
Although Havelka confirmed the information that the police searched the former Tesla complex in connection with the mass death of fish in the Bečva River, he denied with one breath that Energoaqua would cause a cyanide leak. “So far, we have not come to any indication that it would come from our company,” he told pro. server iRozhlas.cz with the proviso that it cannot be guaranteed that cyanide has not escaped from one of their suppliers located in the same complex.
“Police are looking for technology and looking for whether or not cyanide has escaped,” Havelka said. “The point is that wastewater treatment technology is quite complex. It’s not just cyanide wastewater that is treated there. However, these have not been processed recently. They explain and discuss the overall technology, “he added for iRozhlas.cz.
On Tuesday, the deputy chairman of the Green Party and the representative of Vsetín, Michal Berg, pointed out the possibility that cyanide could escape to Bečva from distant Rožnov. “According to my information, this is an old sewer, which drains waste from the area of the former Tesla Rožnov. But don’t expect an adequate punishment: we don’t have a law to quantify ecological damage even 30 years after the revolution, “he wrote on Twitter without naming his source. Until now, investigators have focused mainly on companies in Valašské Meziříčí.
The source of Bečva poisoning? According to my information, this is an old sewer, which drains waste from the area of the former Tesla Rožnov.
But don’t expect an adequate punishment: we don’t have a law to quantify environmental damage even 30 years after the revolution.

The police did not confirm or deny the information that it would intervene in the area for the iRozhlas.cz server. “We are waiting for the results of the analysis and we will not comment on it at the moment,” said Petr Jaroš, a spokesman for the Zlín police, on Wednesday. “We are still looking for our line, but expert opinions are key for us,” he added.
The source from which the cyanides entered the river is still unknown ten days after the first manifestations. The Minister of the Environment Richard Brabec (for YES) said last Friday that finding the culprit will be a matter of hours.
“The ecological catastrophe that cyanide poisoning in the Bečva River undoubtedly is, is being dealt with very intensively by the CEI (Czech Environmental Inspectorate), with which I am in daily contact. In cooperation with the Police of the Czech Republic, we are now looking for the cause of pollution. I believe that criminal investigators will expose the culprit in a short time and he will be exemplary punished, “said Minister Brabec on Friday.
Until Tuesday, fishermen took more than 40 tons of poisoned fish from the Bečva to the rendering plant. The removal has already ended, said Pavel Kocián from the Czech Fishermen’s Association. Experts are now focusing on how to bring life back to the river. Pollution was recorded by fishermen in Bečva in the section from Choryně in the Vsetín region to Přerov. According to the Morava River Basin, the concentration of the substance has decreased so much that it no longer poses a risk. Therefore, on Tuesday, Přerov canceled the recommendation concerning the abstraction of water from the river and its further general use.
For the time being, according to investigators, the only thing that is certain is that cyanide got into the water from the mouth of the canal in Juřinka, the local part of Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region. The police stated this on their twitter on Tuesday. Already on Saturday, police said that many companies are connected to the canal.
