The investigation into the bus crash from northern Macedonia, which killed 45 people, is nearing completion. Only the results of the expert examinations are expected – forensic, automotive, fire and complex. They may be ready even before Christmas, the head of the National Investigation Service Borislav Sarafov told BNT today.

According to him, the data at the moment show that the speed of the bus was probably inconsistent with the road conditions. It rained on the night of the incident and the road was wet.

In response to a question, Sarafov said there was no causal link between the accident, road signs and markings. He clarified that they may have contributed, but the driver had to be more careful and drive at a reasonable speed. However, Sarafov pointed out that the road markings “obviously do not meet the requirements”.

At the moment, the investigation has shown that for a still unknown reason, the bus veered to the right and ran on the guardrail, which separates the rest area from the highway. The impact pierced the tank, a fire broke out and the vehicle got stuck between the guardrails separating the two lanes of the highway (the conclusions of the accident investigation see here).

The inspection of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of the accident found that the pavement is in excellent condition, but the marking is worn out, and the prescription from the spring for its renovation has not been fulfilled.
