The committee that investigates abuses within the Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO) needs more time than expected. Commission chairman Martin van Rijn hopes that the research report and recommendations will be available in the fourth quarter, instead of around the summer.
“The discussions with those involved make a great impression on the committee. We want to do justice to all reporting parties and produce a careful and good report. At the same time, we recognize the desire to provide clarity in the short term. The committee is committed to this,” writes Van Rijn in a letter.
The investigation is now larger than previously assumed, reports the Investigation Committee Behavior and Culture Broadcasters (OGCO). “Developments within broadcasters and programs have meant that the research has become broader.” More people than expected also reported to the committee.
The committee considers due care “of great importance” for all parties involved. “The committee is therefore cautious about the current planning.”
The committee says that all (former) employees of the broadcasters and the NPO have until June 30 to fill in a questionnaire anonymously. People who want to report for an interview can do so until July 15. The committee also invited people for an interview.
The NPO calls it “good and understandable” that the committee takes sufficient time to investigate the working culture at the public broadcaster. That is what a spokesman said ANP.
The Commission is also investigating the working atmosphere at Op1
The committee, led by Van Rijn, was set up in November last year to conduct an independent investigation into abuses in public broadcasting. The reason for this was reporting about the work situation The world goes on.
A week ago it became clear that the committee would also monitor the situation in the workplace Op1 include in the research. Behind the scenes of the talk show there is said to be an unsafe working atmosphere. That atmosphere would have led to editor-in-chief Rachel Franse resigning and BNNVARA withdrawing from the program.
