The Inventor of HP Brings a Special Message for Indonesian Citizens, Dare to Read?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The inventor of the mobile phone (HP), Martin Cooper gave a special message to the world community. He does not advise people to spend their time with gadgets in hand.

He made this suggestion when he was a guest on BBC Breakfast. At that time the presenter told me that he spent five hours per day using his cellphone.

“Really? Is it true that you spend five hours a day? Look for life!,” said Cooper, who is currently 92 years old, quoted from Phone Arena, Saturday (16/7/2022).

He told me that he doesn’t use his cellphone often, only 5% of the time. This claim is quite different from most people who sometimes depend on cellphones every day.

Phone Arena reported that 46% of the United States (US) in a survey spent 5-6 hours on a cellphone per day. While 11% of them use cellphones for 7 hours or more a day.

Before creating the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X in 1973, he had the idea of creating a mobile phone that users could take anywhere. Meanwhile, at that time, cars in HP were very popular.

Cooper wanted a phone that was ‘small enough to fit in a pocket but big enough to fit between ear and mouth’. Besides, his wish was for everyone to have their own phone number.

Motorola loved the idea and invested millions of dollars to develop it. The result is a DynaTAC 8000X that weighs 2.5 pounds and is 10 inches long.

The battery can last for 25 minutes. However, to recharge it takes a long time of 10 hours, in contrast to current technology which has embedded fast charging.

The DynaTAC 8000X was only released 10 years later at a price of US $ 3,995. The price is quite fantastic even for today’s smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 which was just launched some time ago.
