It shouldn’t fail because of the money: The project “Into the sports club” supports children and young people
Having fun in a group, exercising, exercising, working out and experiencing team play: Much of what should make up a carefree childhood and youth was reduced or simply not possible with the pandemic. Those involved in the clubs have worked hard to continue the offer in the best possible way and in a diverse way, especially for the youngest, and are now very much hoping for a stable return to normality, which will make regular sports possible. In order for children and young people to have access to the sports clubs, additional public aid has been promised.
But there is also something that has been tried and tested: The city of Nuremberg has offered the “Into the Sport Club” since 2009, which was developed in the Alliance for Family and since 2014 as a joint project of the Social Welfare Office in the Department for Family, Youth and Social Affairs and SportService in the Department is organized for school and sport. The funding is aimed specifically at children, adolescents and young adults from low-income families who are or would like to become members of a sports club. All holders of a Nuremberg Pass under the age of 27 or those entitled to purchase vouchers for the education and participation package are supported for costs that are necessary for active participation in the sports club and that go beyond the membership fee – for example, costs for sportswear, Be sports equipment, recreational trips or training camps. With this, the project wants to complement the assumption of membership fees with vouchers for the education and participation package.
“Sport connects, creates common ground across social and cultural differences”, says the advisor for schools and sport, Cornelia Trinkl. “In these challenging times, sports clubs show how important they are, in addition to promoting health and exercise, for social interaction and as places of education. It is not for nothing that a good quarter of all members of sports clubs in Nuremberg are under the age of 27: Sports clubs appeal to young people in particular with their offers. In this respect, I am pleased that over 40 non-profit sports clubs are already partners in the project and are helping to ensure that financial hardship is not an obstacle to membership in the sports club! “
This is also underlined by Elisabeth Ries, advisor for youth, family and social affairs: “Many children and young people master the demands of a largely digital world very well and are sometimes well ahead of adults. Movement and activity, team experiences and social interaction are also particularly important for personal development. The pandemic has made organized sport, especially in a team, extremely difficult, and movement has continued to decline. In the city we all come up with lots of ideas so that the everyday life of children and young people becomes more active again, for example in child and youth work, educational institutions and holiday programs, but especially in the sports clubs that are supported by countless hours of voluntary work. The successful cooperation project ‘Into the sports club’ helps that as many young people as possible can experience sport, fun, challenges and togetherness in the sports club. “
In the sports club “is mainly supported by donations – so the project is still dependent on funding. From Monday to Friday, August 8th to 13th, 2021, Citylight posters throughout the city will draw attention to the “Into the Sports Club” project. tom
