The internet is outraged by the bubbly campaign in the Edel-Festzelt

In an Oktoberfest marquee, a table orders a very special bottle of champagne. What the waiter does with it angers many people online.

At the Oktoberfest, some people like to show off what they have – especially how much money they have. Now a scene that can be seen on social networks is causing outrage among some online viewers. In the video that the Instagram page “Münchner Gsindl” published on Thursday evening, a waiter in a marquee can be seen handling a large bottle of champagne.

The scene probably takes place in Kuffler’s wine tent – this is indicated by the waiter’s clothing and also the huge champagne bottle that can be found on the menu of the traditional tent. The waiter cracks the 15 liter bottle vigorously on the marquee floor a few times, to the cheers of a few bystanders, before popping the cork. A powerful champagne fountain then shoots up.

The waiter’s table apparently ordered the action in exactly the same way: in the background, the dinner party can be seen filming the waiter with their cell phones. It doesn’t seem to be a problem that some of the champagne bottle ended up somewhere in the festival tent, but certainly not in the mouths of the Oktoberfest visitors.

The price of the “Nebuchadnezzar” bottle from the manufacturer Veuve Clicquot is piquant. In Kuffler’s wine tent it costs an impressive 5,500 euros – that doesn’t include the tip for the sensational event. And that can be quite significant, as an Oktoberfest waitress recently revealed.

One thing is certain: Anyone who treats themselves to a “Nebuchadnezzar” at Kufflers wants to make a statement in the luxury tent: you won’t find anything even more expensive on the menu here. Guests also pay a hefty “Wiesn surcharge” for their “Nebuchadnezzar”: the mega bottle is available online for around 2,500 euros.

In the comments under the Instagram video, many people are critical of the event in the marquee. One user writes: “Decadence in its purest form.” Another says: “No matter how rich you are, you can’t buy class.”

The Kufflers wine tent has been one of the go-to places for the chic crowd alongside the Beetle for years: the controversial Wiesn-Keller campaign is not entirely new. In the past, the excesses of Munich’s urban society weren’t filmed as often.
