For example, the company CDN77 of billionaire Zdeněk Cendra supplies Internet, especially audiovisual, content. It mainly addresses multimedia websites, which people are now increasingly using to fill their free time due to the pandemic. “Our job is to keep the site down and all the videos running smoothly,” explains Cendra.
This year, for the first time, the company expects billions in sales. According to Cendra, crossing the border is indicated by the latest financial results from the third quarter, when CDN77 earned over 300 million crowns, which is a year-on-year increase of 50 percent. “At the same time, we are succeeding in improving our internal efficiency per unit, which means that as our turnover grows, our net profitability grows even faster,” says Cendra. The company’s gross margin, which is used for its web content by the sports channel Sport1, for example, is around 40 percent.

However, peering nodes are also doing well, which can be compared to airports, where operators exchange data on a large scale, so that they do not have to interconnect at cost. There are two companies operating on the domestic market – Peering.cz, which also belongs to Cender, and an interest association of Internet providers NIX.cz. Both nodes can be assigned to the ten largest in Europe.
“Weekly traffic in NIX.cz is about two thirds higher year-on-year. We are now at a level of about 62 petabytes. According to our findings, the increase is mainly due to the increased use of video conferencing. Greater interest helps us to reduce the cost of our services, “says the head of NIX.cz Adam Golecký.
The pandemic also helps the largest website lessor in the Czech Republic – Active 24 – to grow. In addition to web hosting, it also offers web domains and e-mail services. Its typical customer is a small company with up to five employees. “While in previous years the demand and acquisition of new customers was concentrated mainly at the beginning and end of the year, this year we recorded sharp year-on-year increases in March, May, June and July,” says company boss Martina Pohořelická, adding that this year increase in sales by higher percentage units. Last year, the company earned about 162 million crowns.
