The internet broke down at the same time for 18 months. Cause? Very funny

One Welsh village has long struggled with the strange problem of a complete loss of broadband connectivity. The problem came up regularly at the same time. Many months of investigation led to the discovery of the cause of – as it turned out – a very bizarre defect.

As reported by the BBC news service, the small village of Aberhosan in Wales has suffered from notorious broadband interference for years. Every day around 7 a.m. communication was lost, as if due to supernatural force. The actions of the Internet provider did not help to solve the problem, and even decided to replace the cables running along the houses.

Engineers decided to look at the matter and used a device called a spectrum analyzer to solve the problem. The mystery of why the whole village was losing broadband every morning at 7am has been completely solved.

The old TV was to blame for everything. The analyzer quickly detected that the receiver was emitting a single, high level of impulse noise (SHINE) which was causing electrical noise to other devices. The owner of the television was not even aware that his old equipment was emitting interference for the entire village.

The householder turned on the television every morning at 7 am, and the electrical noise emitted by the television was affecting the broadband signal. The owner was very embarrassed to find out that his kind TV was the cause of the whole problem. He promised to shut down the device and never use it again.

“Any electronic device – from lighting to microwave ovens – has the potential to impact broadband performance,” Suzanne Rutherford, an engineer at an ISP in the region, told the BBC. “We advise people to always use devices that have the appropriate certification,” she added.
