Rogers Communications has apologized to the public. “This outage occurred following a maintenance update on our core network,” Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri said in a brief statement.
The disturbance started on Friday (8/7) local time and lasted more than 15 hours. Many Rogers users are unable to connect either via cell phones or other services.

As a result, banking transactions, emergency services, courts, immigration offices to health are disrupted. Currently, the service is said to be starting to fully recover for all consumers.
“Our technical team is working hard to ensure that all consumers are back online as quickly as possible. Once again, we apologize for this inconvenience to consumers,” Rogers said on Twitter.
Police said many people were unable to connect to the 911 emergency services. The famous singer’s concert The Weeknd had to be postponed as well. This is a reminder of how much modern humans depend on the internet and are desperate for large-scale disturbances to occur.
Rogers Communications is Canada’s largest telecommunications operator, with nearly 11 million subscribers. This is the second time a major disruption has hit the operator in the past year.
