The International Ski and Snowboard Federation, through its Secretary General, Michel Fillon, raises the possibility of the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in tournaments.
The Secretary General of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, Michel Fillon, confirmed today, Thursday, that the International Federation is studying the possibility of allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions next December.
“The idea of the return of the Russian and Belarusian players has begun to emerge. It will take weeks or even months,” Fillon told Forum Nordicum.
“These are the athletes who participate in international tournaments and the World Cup, and not the conduct of tournaments in Russia. Perhaps the decision will be made in December and they will be able to participate in the World Championships,” he added.
Fillon indicated that the International Ski and Snowboard Federation would not make this decision without a clear recommendation from the International Olympic Committee.
Fillon explained that Russian and Belarusian athletes can only be returned to tournaments under a neutral flag.
In February, the International Ski Federation indefinitely suspended the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in all international competitions under his auspices, due to the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
