The International Red Cross announced the kidnapping of two of its employees in Mali

The branch of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Mali announced, on social media, that “two of its employees have been kidnapped between Gao and Kidal in the north of the country.”

The branch affirmed that “the committee has been working in Mali for 32 years, and it is a” neutral, independent and impartial organization,” calling for “not to make speculations about this incident so as not to obstruct its resolution.”

Since 2012, Mali has been witnessing a serious security crisis. Violence and the kidnapping of foreigners and Malians are common, with motives ranging from ransom demands to revenge.

Last February, a doctor from the World Health Organization who had been kidnapped in Mali in late January was released.
