Riga, July 15, LETA. From 19 to 22 July, the international Baltic Ballet Festival will take place, where spectators will have the opportunity to watch the brightest works of the festival competition online, the organizers of the LETA festival.
The festival’s competition takes place in three age groups, and its first selection round has been passed by 54 participants from countries such as Australia, Aruba, Brazil, Estonia, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, USA, South Korea, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Philippines , China, Japan.
On Monday, July 19, and Tuesday, July 20, the jury will evaluate the video works submitted for the second and third rounds to select the winners of the competition. The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes and internship opportunities at European ballet schools. On the fifth anniversary of the competition, a special prize will be presented – a sculpture created by the sculptor Oskars Mikāns.
Competitors will be judged by an international jury. The chairman of the jury will be the artistic director of the Latvian National Ballet Aivars Leimanis. International experts are invited to join the jury – Warsaw Ballet School Artistic Director Jolanta Ribarska, Associate Professor of the Split Theater Academy Almira Osmanovich, President of the International Ballet Competition in New York Valentīna Kozlova, Director of the International Interlohen Art Center Dance Department Ščelkanova, head of the Riga Ballet School of the National Secondary School of Arts Agnese Andersone and professor of classical dance “Danse de Paris” Sergejs Solovjovs.
On Wednesday, July 21, at 5 pm in the art and recreation place “Baltais laukums”, the brightest video works of the participants participating in the second and third rounds of the competition will be shown on the big screen in the forecourt of the Latvian National Opera. and Gala concert, in which, in addition to presenting the prizes, the videos of the winners of the competition and the works of the new generation of Latvian choreographers will be shown. At the end of the concert, anyone interested will be able to watch the competition on Youtube and Facebook channels.
The International Baltic Ballet Competition has been taking place since 2013. Its growing importance is confirmed both by the great interest of participants from all over the world and the membership in the International Ballet Competition Federation. The competition has several equally important goals: discovery of new talents, development of education in the field of choreography, preservation of classical ballet traditions, improvement of pedagogical activity, as well as development of international creative cooperation and cultural exchange.
