Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which will take place from June 14 to June 19, includes two Latvian films this year – the debut work “Panic” by the artist “Helen Ora” and the latest film “Comeback” by director Vladimir Leshchov, filmmaker’s representative Zane Dzene informed. .

She said that the film “Panic” is a cry of a woman’s soul and a provocation about a woman’s roles. Its animation was created by the artist drawing by hand on printed video footage. The film “Panic” is included in the short film category of the Annecy Festival competition program, where eight works will compete for the prize. Its author is “Helen Ora”, formerly known as Elīna Dzelme and Elīna Maligina, and her debut work was made in collaboration with the director, producer Reini Kalnaelli.

Dzene noted that the award-winning director Lešcov’s film “Comeback” was included in the program of the animated short film competition, and its description is laconic: “The long-lost childhood passion may one day return”. Leshchov played hockey as a child and regained his passion for the game after a trip to Canada, where artists, musicians and ballet dancers play this sport.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has been taking place since 1960, when animators separated from Cannes, and is one of the most prestigious and significant animation film festivals in the world. In recent years, two Latvian films have triumphed there: Gints Zilbaloža’s 2019 film “For the Bears” and Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen’s 2020 documentary animated film “My Favorite War”.
