Madrid, Mar 18 (.) .- The insurance pays 500 million euros per year to fix or compensate the damages caused by fires and 78% of those that occur in the country occur in homes, according to a study of the associations Cepreven and Tecnifuego, which also collects data from 24 Unespa insurers.
While an average fire in a home entails the payment of 2,930 euros by insurance, this compensation triples when it comes to businesses (8,768 euros) and multiplies by 14 in the case of industries (42,081 euros).
In Spain, most of the buildings protected by fire insurance are homes (88%). The rest is distributed between shops (5.9%), owners’ associations (3.4%), industries (1.6%) and other types of spaces.
Despite all this, the weight of households is notably diluted when what is analyzed is the distribution of compensation. Thus, families receive 40% of the money, while industries enter 37% and businesses another 13%, according to the report by Cepreven (risk prevention association) and Tecnifuego (the Spanish Association of Fire Protection Societies ).
Most of the properties insured against fires are found in the provinces with the most population: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Seville. However, the territories where they are most likely to occur are Jaén, Córdoba, Badajoz, Pontevedra and Seville.
In fact, the smallest localities, those that do not reach 50,000 inhabitants, tend to suffer a higher proportion of fires than would correspond to them due to their demographic weight. The opposite is true in the case of large cities.
Burgos, Gerona, Zamora, the Balearic Islands and Soria are the territories that present fires with a higher average cost since the compensation ranges between 7,300 and 10,000 euros.
By municipalities, the most striking fires occur in Getxo, Gerona, Logroño, Manresa and Barcelona, in which the flames generate damages of between 7,300 and 12,000 euros, depending on the case.
In order to avoid fires, experts recommend not overloading the plugs, checking that the chargers used with different appliances are adequate, not leaving the devices charging on a bed or sofa, not bringing curtains and furniture close to sources of electricity. heat, keep an eye on the kitchen, avoid smoking in bed, and blow out candles when in use.
