The Inspiring Story of David Holmes and Daniel Radcliffe: From Stunt Doubles to Making a Difference

Holmes was Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in the first six Harry Potter films. He also played a role in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, but an error in the credits does not show his name in the cast. Daniel and David spent so much time together in their youth that they saw each other as brothers.

In January 2009, David was performing stunts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and suffered a serious back injury that left him partially paralyzed.

After recovering from the injury, David started racing with hand controls. Together with two friends who are also paralyzed, Holmes founded Ripple Productions.

Starting in 2020, David, with the support of Daniel Radcliffe, created podcast Cunning Stunts, which interviews fellow stuntmen to raise awareness of the risks they face on a daily basis.

Even after 14 years, the injury makes itself felt, taking away the sensitivity of the right hand. Holmes attends massages, optimistically hoping that his left arm will not suffer the same fate.
