The insolvent nursing home residents have to move out

Bremen – The Bremen domiciliary administration has to find a new home for almost 90 residents of an insolvent church nursing home at short notice. After the closure of the Kirchweg house announced between Christmas and New Year’s, there is until the end of February to do so, said a social affairs spokesman for the senator.

On Wednesday evening, those affected and their relatives were informed of the possibilities for other accommodations. The Bremen Home Foundation facilities were said to be able to house at least 50 elderly and sick people.

The mother, Evangelische Diakonieverein Berlin-Zehlendorf, filed for bankruptcy on behalf of the house manager, Leben im Alter gGmbH. The owner of the property is the Verein für Innere Mission Bremen, which operated the nursing home itself until spring 2021. The Hoffnungstaler Stiftung Lobetal, which belongs to the Bodelschwinghsche Anstalten Bethel, presented itself as the new manager before Christmas. But then he withdrew his offer.

So the “abrupt total shutdown” had become inevitable, said bankruptcy administrator Joachim Voigt-Salus. Such a case had never occurred to him in his practice. There was always enough time for staff, residents and their families to find new solutions. “I’ve never needed domestic supervision to shut down a facility,” he told the German news agency.
