The Lebanese were surprised by the very high price of green pepper, as one kilo amounted to about 250,000 pounds, until it became correct to describe it as “golden pepper.” It seems that some food commodities and products have become impossible to buy due to the insane prices, so that some of them have become difficult for the Lebanese to buy except “With love” after they got used to the luxury in their homes.
But what is the reason for this insane rise in green peppers, especially since they are grown in Lebanon and are not imported?
The head of the Bekaa Farmers and Peasants Association, Ibrahim al-Tarshishi, explained via the mtv website that the reason for the price hike is due to the weather conditions in the past days, which led to a decline in the supply of this commodity in the markets. Pointing out that peppers are grown on the coast as well as indoors, and starting from the beginning of next month, the harvesting seasons and their distribution in the markets will begin.
Al-Tarshishi stressed that “the Lebanese farmer is still cultivating and meeting the needs of the Lebanese market,” stressing that “goodness is present and” we will continue to work.
