Hundreds of demonstrators surrounded the German embassy in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The situation near the diplomatic mission of Great Britain is similar.
The film has already cost the lives of the American ambassador and three employees of the US diplomatic mission in Libya. It sparked a wave of anti-American pogroms and marches in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen, Iran, Pakistan, Sudan, Afghanistan and Malaysia. But it will probably not end there. It has become clear that the real author of the short film may be a California-based Egyptian Coptic Christian from a radical religious community. Copts in Egypt now fear retaliation.
Boris Dolgov, an expert from the Center for Arab Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies claims that America is suffering from its own policy – a policy of supporting all the groups that fought against the ruling regimes during the “Arab Spring”:
– Now the situation in the Arab countries has changed. Previously, the leadership of these countries controlled the situation and could not allow attacks on embassies, let alone the assassination of an ambassador. This has now become possible because radical Islamist forces operate completely openly in these countries.
In America, another war is being waged over the film. All these dramatic events cannot fail to influence voters, notes Oleg Kulakov, a professor at the Russian Military University:
– Most likely, the provocation was planned. And the question by whom exactly it was planned and in whose interests remains open. Obama and the ruling administration are hardly involved in it. But, on the other hand, it is they who have sources of information. And they, of course, should have known that it would happen in just such a form.
The “innocence of Muslims” is not able to radically influence the results of the elections. But the USA can greatly harm Obama in the south, in the “Bible Belt”.
