The injured Messi must watch the League Cup match from the stands

Messi is still challenged by a ligament injury, and his head coach is therefore keeping him out of the game on Tuesday.

The Argentine football star Lionel Messi has been excluded by Inter Miami’s head coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, from playing in Tuesday’s match against Columbus Crew in the Leagues Cup.

AFP writes.

Messi is still not ready to play after suffering a ligament injury in his right ankle over a month ago. It happened during the Copa America final, which Argentina won 1-0 over Colombia.

The Argentine has since shed the splint he has been wearing to protect the ankle, but is yet to take part in a training session with the rest of Inter Miami.

The Leagues Cup is a tournament played between clubs from both MLS, which is the American league, and the top Mexican league, Liga MX.

Inter Miami won last year’s Leagues Cup, with Messi scoring in the final.

He joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain last July.

Tuesday’s showdown between the Columbus Crew, who took the MLS final victory last year, and Inter Miami is one of eight games played on Monday and Tuesday that will determine who will face each other in the quarterfinals, played on Friday and Saturday.
