the initiative between Fundación Donante San Juan and a well-known ice cream shop

In a new initiative to get more people to give blood voluntarily, the San Juan Donor Foundation has implemented the “Give Blood for Ice Cream” campaign. Those who came to the various branches of a well-known ice cream parlor received a quarter kilo of ice cream as a prize after donating.

“The activity we are carrying out today is in conjunction with the Portho ice cream shop. It’s a donation for a liter of ice cream. We are carrying out awareness work so that people adopt the habit of donating, without necessarily going to a family member or close person”, said María José Ramos, biochemical technician, at HUARPE DIARY.

The representative of the foundation explained that blood donations are intended for any patient, both in the private and public spheres. “Where blood is needed, we offer it. We are a new blood bank. We work hand in hand with the IPHEM,” he added.

On the other hand, the professional acknowledged that it is currently difficult to obtain voluntary donors. “With this campaign we are somehow encouraging donors and thanking them with this gift. Today we work simultaneously in four locations,” he explained.

The protagonists

A few minutes before 4pm, some people have already started queuing waiting to be received by the professionals. For some of them it was the first time they donated, for others not. In what the majority agreed to be because they liked the initiative very much. “We’ve seen the publication on the networks and the ice cream thing has caught our attention, but it’s also always nice to donate, it moves me to know that I’m helping someone and what’s more they give me a prize,” said Mateo Marchese, 18.

The bravest were encouraged to arrive on their own, while others, like Ain and Renzo, chose to join each other company “in case the pressure drops,” their friends acknowledged with a laugh. The young people got there thanks to one of the posts they saw on Instagram. “I’ve always wanted to donate, but I’ve never found the time. We saw this initiative and I told myself that this was the occasion. We do the good deed of the day and what’s more, they give us a gift,” Renzo told this media outlet.
