the inhabitants of the Le Botanique residence angry

Set back from the A31 motorway, the Le Botanique and Le Gabion residences, located at 32 rue Laydecker in Thionville, wanted to be a little corner of paradise, green and decorated with a vegetated retention basin in which carp and amphibians flowed happy Days.

This island of greenery, designed to bring calm and freshness to the inhabitants of the two buildings, one belonging to individuals and the other to Moselis-OPH Moselle, crystallizes the anger of residents today.

Moselis-OPH Moselle by hand

In addition to the vegetation, which has become lush due to lack of maintenance, obstructing windows and balconies in places, the basin, which has not been supplied with water since last autumn, is visibly drying up. However, the carp that had been introduced to fight against the proliferation of flies and mosquitoes are dying there one after the other.

“The supply nozzle cut each winter has not been reopened by Moselis-OPH Moselle, which is the only one to have control”, notes the representative of Altimmo-gest, trustee of Botanique. The basin which is also used to capture rainwater should normally be taken over by the City of Thionville ”, he still believes to know.

An accumulation of problems

For several weeks now, “the presence of dead fish has attracted crows and rats which proliferate in the garden and outbuildings. And which, thanks to the ivy present on the facades, climb up to the balconies of the apartments”, laments a tenant. Traps have been set to try to stem the scourge.

“I’m not even talking about the smell of mud…”, continues the resident who finally decided to leave the premises after the summer. Because at the Le Botanique residence, the problems have been piling up for two years.

“We spent fourteen months without heating and without hot water in 2020 and 2021”, recalls the latter. Blame it on the poorly maintained boiler room by the service provider at the time. “The whole heating system had to be redone because the pipes were pierced everywhere,” confirms the trustee’s representative, who could end up throwing in the towel.
