In May, passenger transport fuels (+ 35.4 percent) and then electricity, gas and other fuels (31.4 percent) contributed to the rise in prices. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 13.5 percent.

Compared to April, prices increased by 1.7 percent month-on-month. This means a slight improvement over April, when they increased by two percent compared to the previous month.

The rise in prices has exceeded analysts’ estimates. According to the PAP agency, they expected a year-on-year increase to 13.8 percent, and a month-on-month decrease to 1.6 percent.

In the Czech Republic, the inflation rate in April, according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), was 14.2 percent and was the highest of all Visegrad countries (V4).

It was 9.5 percent in Hungary and 11.8 percent in Slovakia. Slovakia is the only Visegrad Group to be a member of the eurozone.
