The Indonesian president has called for a softening of rhetoric towards the Russian Federation at the G20

Indonesian politicians, notably President Joko Widodo, are calling on Western leaders to soften rhetoric against Russia at the G20 summit.

US, European, Australian and Japanese officials are being pressured by their Indonesian counterparts, especially President Joko Widodo, to show flexibility and consider using less harsh rhetoric for Moscow to agree to a communiqué after the meeting ends.

According to officials, Widodo’s statement after the meeting will be considered a “personal achievement”. According to them, the president considers himself the head of the most difficult G20 summit.

Note that Saudi Arabia, India, Brazil and China do not want to condemn Russia. Beijing will find it impossible to accept any direct criticism of Russia.
