The Indonesian government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States Department of Commerce for a Clean Energy Working Group in March 2023 to jointly develop clean energy in Indonesia. Indonesia has a wealth of natural resources, but the biggest challenge in developing clean energy is attracting necessary investment in infrastructure, transmission, and energy transition map schemes. The energy transition map scheme from 2021 to 2060 requires $29 billion of investment per year to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2060. The United States’ commitment to help Indonesia with an investment in the clean renewable energy sector with $20 billion is a great opportunity for Indonesia. The Clean Energy Working Group aims to help Indonesia achieve 23% contribution to the renewable energy network and net zero emissions by 2060. The latest MoU, for the author, is a continuation of the United States’ commitment to provide assistance and support to Indonesia in their energy transition process.
