The individual criticism after FC Basel’s defeat at FC Luzern

Marwin Hitz also adapts to a staid collective in Lucerne

FC Basel has improved compared to its recent weak performances, but that’s not enough to win a point. FCB lost 0-1 in Lucerne. The goalkeeper, who was extremely strong until the goal was conceded, also played a part in this.

Luca Jaquez scored Lucerne’s winning goal while Marwin Hitz could only watch the ball.

Marwin Hitz: Note 4

Saves the FCB miraculously in the 28th minute with the first shot on their goal. Even Villiger, who was already offside, found his match with the veteran after 47 minutes. But when he concedes a goal, he sails past the ball with serious consequences.

Nicolas Vouilloz: Note 4

He cannot hide the lack of match practice as a weak point in the defensive network in the first half. But he came out of the break improved until he made way for striker Fink in the 83rd minute.

Jonas Adjetey: Note 4.5

His bad pass is at the origin of Lucerne’s first goal in the 14th minute. As a result, they were strong as usual – until they conceded a goal (see Barisic).

Adrian Leon Barisic: Note 4.5

Brings robustness to the defense in duels and dares to finish in the 43rd minute. He can’t be blamed for anything, except that he can’t stop Jaquez from conceding a goal.

Dominik Schmid: Note 4

After five minutes, Shaqiri launched the first promising opportunity to finish, but he put the ball over the goal. As a result, it doesn’t decline but also has no decisive influence.

Léo Leroy: Rating 4.5

By no means just a man for the rough stuff, he also contributes to the Basel game in a playful manner and records a lot of ball contact in the Basel control center. After 58 minutes he also caused an offensive threat, but put the ball past the post.

Leon Avdullahu: Note 4

Still lagging behind the form of his debut season, but carries out his duties in the center dutifully and picked up a yellow card in the second half.

Anton Kade: Note 4.5

After 10 seconds and a header duel with Beloko, he remains lying down. After 20 minutes, he checked into the game productively with two final attempts within a few seconds and prevented the deficit shortly before the break. Is replaced by Mendes in the 69th minute.

Bénie Traoré was an asset, particularly in the first half. In the second half, however, he was characterized by his carelessness in exploiting his chances.

Blessed Traoré: Note 4

Secures a lot of balls and has his feet involved in most of Basel’s actions. In the end, he also sins from promising positions in the 50th minute and 64th minute.

Albian Ajeti: Note 3.5

Again hardly sees any land against a physically strong Lucerne defense. When Traoré found him in the penalty area in the 39th minute, he didn’t hit the ball. Is replaced by Carlos in the 69th minute.

Albian Ajeti was not lacking in effort. But he had a difficult time against Stefan Knezevic.

Xherdan Shaqiri: Note 4

He was consistently whistled and received malicious applause when the free kick failed in the 34th minute. But like in the 31st and 38th minutes, he at least made some offensive moves before making way for Soticek in the 55th minute.

Marin Soticek: Note 4

Brings significantly more speed to the pitch than Shaqiri, but he can’t provide decisive scenes either.

Kevin Carlos: Note 3.5

Holds up better against Lucerne’s defense than Ajeti, but he doesn’t want to do anything countable either.

Joe Mendes: Note 3.5

Hardly seen what speaks for him defensively after his substitution. FCB needed more from him offensively.

Too short in use for a rating:

Bradley Fink (83rd for Vouilloz)
