Air fares from major cities of the country to Ahmedabad are skyrocketing. Currently, it has reached 350 percent increase. A person booking round trips non-stop flight from Chennai to Ahmedabad will have to pay Rs 45,425. The usual fare for the same trip is Rs 10,000. It has more than quadrupled.
Fans are eagerly waiting for the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in India from October 5 to November 19. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the opening match, the final and the India-Pakistan clash. As a result, flights between October 14-16 are experiencing high demand. Even now, there has been an increase of 339% and 203% to Ahmedabad from all major cities including Mumbai and Delhi.
‘Airfare to Ahmedabad has soared, thanks to higher travel demand expected on match days. Although the opening and final match days of the World Cup did not see much crowd, there is excitement for the India-Pak match. “Overall, inquiries for hotel bookings and tickets to Ahmedabad are high on the day of the India-Pak match,” said Virendra Shah, Chairman, Travel Agents Association of India (TAIAI), on the current situation.
Not only the flight ticket increase, the top hotels in Ahmedabad are already mostly booked and more than 60 percent of their rooms are already booked for the match days. Groups of cricket fans, VVIPs, corporates, teams and sponsors are the ones who book hotel-flight tickets.
