The unique jewel villa “Les Cèdres” on the French Riviera is one of the most expensive houses in the world. For the price of this 190-year-old villa, you can buy 10,000 kilograms of gold, 100 of the most expensive yachts in the world and 50 of the most expensive cars in the world, writes tocka.com.mk, quoted by lupa.bg.
This magnificent house has been listed for sale since 2017, and in 2019 Rinat Akhmetov, a billionaire from Ukraine, bought it for 220 million euros. Meanwhile, its value is increasing.
Villa “Les Cèdres” was built for the King of Belgium in 1830. Its light yellowish color like sand speaks of the dynasty – because such shades were used for the villas of the Sardinian royal family who ruled at the time.
Twenty years after it was built, the mayor of Villefranche-sur-Mer bought the house and planned to have an olive farm there. Even today, there are more than 300-year-old olive trees on the villa property.
In 1904, the most expensive house in the world had a new owner when the descendants of the mayor sold it to King Leopold II of Belgium. He expanded the gardens around the home. The property was bought by the Marnier-Lapostol family in 1924 and they used it for the longest, 90 years, growing all kinds of exotic plants.
The house is a whopping 1,700 square meters and has 14 bedrooms, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a wood-paneled library containing 3,000 books on flora and naturalism (including a 1640 edition of the Botanical Codex), an artificial Amazon lily pond, a bronze statue of Athena, a chandelier-lit ballroom, grand living rooms, richly framed 19th-century portraits and stunning woodwork.
The lumber alone costs a fortune. Apart from the many luxuries, the location of Les Cèdres villa on the coast of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrata speaks volumes for its magnificence. Its highest points offer views of Villefranche-sur-Mer, a viaduct bridge, near the medieval town of Eze Village, and far to the east, the beautiful Alps that separate France and Italy.
