This rate has risen above the bar of 100 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, to reach 117, according to the situation report published on Tuesday evening by the Regional Health Agency. Orne remains the most affected Normandy department, with an incidence rate of 188 against 114 in Calvados. The increase in the number of hospitalizations also continues, with 1,127 patients currently in Normandy against 1,062 on December 30. But the number of patients in intensive care remains stable at 93.
First vaccinations in Alençon
The Alençon-Mamers intercommunal hospital center is the first establishment in the former Lower Normandy where doses of the vaccine could be injected on Tuesday. Nothing for the time being on the side of the Caen CHU according to the ARS which coordinates the vaccination campaign. But the Caen establishment is currently receiving its doses and should start in the coming days. Volunteer health professionals over 50 or at risk of developing a severe form of the disease are vaccinated first.
Vaccination in pilot nursing homes
From this weekend, the vaccination will also extend to about fifteen pilot EHPADs throughout the region. Three in Calvados, at Fleury sur Orne (EHPAD Le Florilège), Bretteville-sur-Laize (EHPAD Les Chanterelles) and the USLD CH Côte Fleurie – Equemauville-Honfleur site. And three in Orne, in Bretoncelles (EHPAD Les Grands Pres), Briouze (EHPAD Rés. Du Houlme) and USLD CH de l’Aigle.
65 clusters in Normandy
The Regional Health Agency currently lists 65 clusters in Normandy: 12 in Calvados, including nine in EHPAD, two in health establishments and one in a professional environment. And 13 in Orne, only in EHPADs. Since the start of the epidemic, 2,187 people have died from the Covid-19 coronavirus in Normandy, including 1,505 since September 1.
