The IMSS will administer flu and Covid-19 vaccinations on these dates and sites

MEXICO CITY (apro).- On October 15, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) will start the vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and Covid-19. The campaign will end on March 28, 2025 and during its duration, more than 20 million vaccinations will be administered.

The use of these vaccines is part of the regional vaccination campaign for the winter season in which all public centers in the health sector participate, reports Enrique Alcalá Martínez, coordinator of IMSS Medical Programs.

The vaccinations will be free and will be applied to beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries in First Level medical units, PrevenIMSS modules, day care centers and in vaccination positions in strategic places such as shopping centers, these are available from 8:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night.

In addition to this, they will make vaccination groups to identify people in need of vaccination who meet the requirements, these will be done outside the medical units.

In the case of seasonal flu vaccines, approximately 12.7 million doses will be administered and their target population is children from six months to five years of age and adults aged 60 years and older, as, “no their immune system is performing sufficient protection against this disease.”

Another priority group is the population between 5 and 59 years of age with diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, obesity and HIV.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccine, the doctor explained that 7.6 million doses are expected to be administered and that the target population is between five and 59 years of age who have not received any dose or are ‘ suffer from diseases such as diabetes, lung or heart diseases. , health workers, people with HIV and adults over 60 years.

Alcalá stressed that not getting the vaccine could cause serious problems such as pneumonia, respiratory distress, severe lung disease and heart damage, conditions that could lead to hospitalization or death.

He reminded citizens that secondary reactions to the use of these vaccines last 48 hours and are as follows:

  • Redness at the application site
  • Discomfort when you move the arm
