Chihuahua, Chih.- As part of the national flu vaccination campaign, the Mexican Institute of Social Security urges the population to go to family medicine units to be vaccinated.

Through this campaign, which began on October 1, it seeks to prevent infection and complications caused by this virus, mainly in girls and boys aged 6 months to four years 11 months and adults aged 60 and over, in pregnant women , in healthcare workers, as well as those with risk factors (HIV / AIDS, diabetes mellitus, obesity and heart disease).

Brenda Ramírez Vega, coordinator of Public Health, stressed that the temperature changes have already begun in a large part of the entity, which is why the application of this vaccine is necessary, which will be applied in the areas of Preventive Medicine, located in the Units of Family Medicine (UMF), during established working hours, from 8:00 to 20:00.

Influenza is an easily spread disease caused by a virus that usually attacks the respiratory system – the nose, throat and, in some cases, the lungs. It is transmitted from person to person, through droplets of saliva that are expelled when sneezing or coughing; even when shaking hands, kissing or hugging a sick person; also from contact with previously contaminated surfaces, such as tables, computer keyboards, sporting goods, handles, railings, telephones, handkerchiefs and disposable fabrics.

Ramírez Vega explained that the symptoms of the flu are: fever above 38 ° C, cough and headache, accompanied by a runny nose, redness and nasal congestion; joint and muscle pain; diarrhea, as well as chest pain, stomach pain, when swallowing.

Therefore, he stressed that the vaccine is a good first step to protect oneself from the virus, as well as continuing regular hand washing with soap and water, or failing that, the use of alcoholic gel at 70% concentrations; sneezing etiquette, space ventilation, exercise and balanced nutrition.

“The seasonal flu virus has kept a low profile, but we mustn’t let our guard down. Health is a decision that not only affects the individual, but has repercussions on our family and the community we live with. For them and for us, we continue to take care of ourselves, “she concluded.
