The hiring table of the Ministry of Transport has finally awarded the work of the crossing of Solymar, in the Oleiros City Council for an amount of 9.813.642,04 euros. The works will begin this year after decades of waiting and will involve the construction of an elevated roundabout, and the management of accesses and pedestrian crossings. The new junction will be located at kilometer 5.2 of the AC-12, which will replace the current Solymar intersection. The trunk of the AC-12 will run underground between pile screen walls with two-lane carriageways for each direction of traffic and on the upper level of the junction a surface roundabout will resolve the movements with the Avenida das Mariñas and Rúa Areal.
The planned action seeks to improve the functionality of the AC-12 and the level of service of access traffic to the city and its metropolitan area.
In addition, it will allow the improvement of pedestrian permeability in the environment of the road, which will have a traffic light on the upper level of the link. Thus, the impact of traffic on the urban environment will be reduced.
The Government delegate in Galicia, Javier Losada, recalls that the neighbors had been demanding them for years: “Today the work of the Solymar crossing has been awarded, a government commitment that will guarantee safety, improve mobility and respond to the solutions of the neighbors and town halls “.
