The mafia boss Giuseppe Calvaruso, considered head of the Sicilian clan of Pagliarelli by the anti-mafia prosecutor of Palermo, he has been arrested Sunday at Palermo’s Falcone e Borsellino airport.
Calvaruso is 44 years old and according to the magistrates for some years he had been managing the affairs of the clan – one of the most powerful of the Sicilian mafia – from Brazil. Domenica was in Sicily for a short visit for Easter. The arrest took place following some interceptions of the carabinieri: according to the magistrates, Calvaruso was trying to continue
the reorganization of Cosa Nostra started after years of partial decline by the boss Settimo Mineo, arrested in 2018.
Four other people were arrested together with Calvaruso: Giovanni Caruso, Silvestre Maniscalco, Francesco Paolo Bagnasco and Giovanni Spanò. The arrests were ordered by a group of magistrates coordinated by the prosecutor of the Palermo Anti-Mafia District Directorate Salvatore De Luca. For the five the charges are of mafia association, extortion, personal injury, kidnapping and fictitious registration of assets.
