The Importance of Water in Creation and Civilization: Ancient Myths and Modern Science

ALAM the universe is, in current astronomy and astrophysics, infinite. Vastness, mystery, and incomprehension make star, space, and interplanetary scientists conclude that the universe is controlled by dark matter (dark matter) and dark energy (dark energy). Both are named dark, dark because of their mystery.

Visible matter such as stars, planets, asteroids are only a small part of the unknown (dark) elements.

According to current astronomy, our universe is hypothetical (provisional) thirteen billion years old. Nature was formed due to pressure on the point of exploding atoms.

The explosion continues to expand infinitely into billions of galaxies, filled with stars, orbited by planets. The universe is vast, because the expansion never stops.

Our star, the sun, the only one close to earth, is four to five billion years old. Earth is roughly four and a half billion. Three billion old life. A kind of man himself appeared five million years ago.

Some scientific conjectures say that water appeared earlier than the sun. Because the elements of water H2O (Hydrogen two and Oxygen) can be found anywhere, supposedly even before our sun was formed.

Water covers the earth’s surface at least seventy percent. Water is very common on earth.

According to the Old Testament Book of Genesis 2:1-3 the world was created in seven days. According to the Koran, six days (Al-A’raf 7: 54). There’s version six and there’s version seven, in both.

Water is an important component. In the mythology of ancient Babylonian and Sumerian cosmology, 2,000 or 4,000 years BC, creation is always associated with water. Japanese mythology is the same, sea and islands.

Legends and myths from Scandanavia tell of the element of water in creation, specifically ice. Ancient Egyptian stories also involve water in the birth of the world.

All ancient traditions already know the basic elements: water, fire, earth, wood, wind (China, Java, Japan, India). Water is a component of life.

Currently what is called exoplanet hunting, planets outside our solar system, is looking for the goldilock zone. That is a planet like the earth, not too far from its star, but not too close.

Water can be a liquid because it is exactly where it is. Too close to the sun, water evaporates. Too far, frozen water. This distance is called the comfortable distance.

All ancient cultures and sacred buildings are close to water. The ancient Egyptian pyramids (3,000 years BC) are located on the banks of the Nile.

That said, the water is close to the magnificent building. Large stones and heavy tools were carried by water. Waterways, both rivers and seas, have long been a human favorite besides land routes.

Prambanan Temple (9th century AD) is also close to the Opak River, to the west of it. The Opak River originates from the waters of the Merapi mountains. It is from there that the water feeds those who visit and perform puja at the holy place.

Rivers are not only a place of comfortable rest, but also a source of life: animal husbandry and agriculture, just like the Nile. Economic life is also supported by water.

Majapahit (1293-1527 AD) was the same way. The Berantas line, which played a connecting role between the sea and the kingdom, was around Kediri, Tulungagung, Mojokerto and Surabaya. In many of the temples of that era, there is apelurtan. Water merges with the place of prayer.

The Kaaba in Mecca is like that. In the dry desert, arid mountains, unusually hot, there are wells, water sources. It’s fresh.

That’s where God’s house is built. The citizens of Mecca, made up of tribes, gathered near the water. They enjoy it, engage in commercial, spiritual, and political activities.

The guardian of the Kaaba and Zamzam water has high honor, that is the Quraysh tribe. A tribe that is said to have the mentality of a leader, because of their experience associating with many foreign tribes and nations who visit the Kaaba and Zamzam water. That’s where the Prophet Muhammad SAW came from.

The Quraish tribe not only received guests who came to the Kaaba, but also went far to the land of Rum (Roman territory), Sham (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine), Persia, and other countries (Surah 106 Quraish: 4 verses) .

The Quraysh tribe is the most educated of the tribes in the Hijaz, having absorbed a lot of outside knowledge through trade and political diplomacy. That’s the theory of Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406).

Quraysh has the character of a leader, not because of his blue blood type, but because of his classy experience in interacting widely and doing business abroad. It seems that Mecca has always been a meeting place for many people.

Currently Zamzam water is a spiritual and physical attraction. After tawaf, sa’i, or simply coming from around the terminal Syib Amir, Jiad, Bab Ali heading to the Haram, of course thirsty. Zamzam water is available in every corner of the Haram.

Zamzam water is a cooling agent for dry throats and heat sores. Swallowing the water refreshes the whole body.

Is Zamzam water lucky?

If you believe, you must be lucky. Leave those who don’t believe, give space to your own imagination. Those who don’t believe, also make room for those who believe.

Water is a sacred item, from anywhere. All myths and legends tell about the power of water. Water is the source of world civilization, the beginning of life, and transportation. The human body is ruled by water. Earth is surrounded by water.

Lack of water can be dehydrated. Like the iron in human blood, it came from the debris of a supernova star billions of years ago. Water also came from space billions of years ago. Everyone is lucky.
